Ortho-Keratology (Ortho-K)

At Vision Hub, we employ the latest technologies to provide our clients with the best contact lens options. Your optometrist, Michael Burnside, has over 30 years experience in specialized contact lens fittings, and over 10 years experience in Ortho-K.

Ortho-K is a procedure where contact lenses are worn overnight to reshape the front surface of the eye, the cornea. This corrects the vision in conditions such as short sightedness (myopia) so that good vision is retained during the day and night without using glasses or conventional contact lenses.

Ortho-K and Children

As well as his experience in contact lenses, Michael is also a Behavioral Optometrist who specializes in children. One of the key benefits of Ortho-K for children is that the corneal shape that is generated is effective in reducing the progression of shortsightedness. By reducing the degree of shortsightedness that develops, the long term advantage is to reduce the dependency on glasses and contact lenses, provide natural vision for sports and lifestyle and reduce the risks of eye complications from high degrees of myopia.

Ortho-K and Sports

Ortho-K is an ideal alternative to glasses and traditional contact lenses for sports and Life-styles. Speed sports such as cycling, motocross and skiing can have the effect of drying out traditional contact lenses, whereas contact lenses can also be lost in watersports such as skiing, surfing and swimming. Ortho-K provides natural vision through the day with-out recourse to glasses or traditional contact lenses.
